I received my medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and then completed pediatric residency and adolescent medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).  I also received an MPH from the UAB School of Public Health.

I am currently a Professor of Pediatrics at UAB and practice at the Adolescent Health Center at Children’s of Alabama.  I have both clinical and research experience with adolescents, particularly adolescents with complex medical and psychosocial needs.  Within the Division of Adolescent Medicine, I serve as the training director for the adolescent medicine fellowship and the HRSA/MCHB-funded Leadership Education in Adolescent Health training program.  I have also directed the HRSA-funded Ryan White Part D Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham since 2017.

In 2015, I was named as the inaugural Director of Faculty Development for the Department of Pediatrics where I am responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and services provided by the OFD.  In this role, I have spearheaded a number of initiatives in the areas of leadership development, medical education, mentoring, faculty engagement, wellness, diversity and inclusion as well as community engagement.
